Amazing how simple this is yet how infrequently done.
It’s nice to be able to use music other people produced and weave it into something special on the dance floor. It’s nice to be able to release that set so people can relive it or hear what they missed.
It’s also nice to give credit where credit is due. And in the digital era it’s easier than ever to get a list of what you played – I’ll explain my process in Part 2. I like to take it one step further, and tag producer’s FB artist pages so they are also aware they are getting credit. In the process I always follow their page which helps me stay informed of releases, tours, etc.
If you are afraid of people ‘stealing your playlist’ get over yourself, imitation is the highest form of flattery and if you’re really a trendsetter you’ll be on to the next thing anyway. Giving credit, and a little more exposure to the artists you love is way more important <3
